APQP – Advanced Product Quality Planning with PPAP procedure

Participants have the opportunity to consolidate the knowledge acquired during the training course through a number of exercises carried out individually or in small groups. On the basis of materials provided by the trainer, participants practice how to correctly use the tools used in the various stages of APQP.
During the training, exercises are carried out on the use of such methods and tools as

  • Boundary Diagram
  • P-Diagram
  • QFD
  • FMEA
  • SPC
  • PPAP
  • Control plans

We are based on the latest 3rd edition of APQP published in 2024. A large number of exercises will allow you to better understand the issue and effectively consolidate new knowledge. An important element of the training will be to show the links and dependencies between the various methods and the results of their application. Making the trainees aware of these links will allow them to properly understand the concept of APQP.

The main objectives of the training are:

  • To present the entire quality planning procedure according to the APQP approach
  • To discuss the basic methods used within APQP
  • Analysis of documents related to the APQP process

TRAINING PROGRAM

For in-company training, the proposed program is a preliminary suggestion and can be freely adapted to the individual needs of the company.

  • General overview of IATF 16949
  • Discussion of requirements related to design and new product introduction

Exercises:

Analysis of the role of APQP in the context of IATF 16949, including requirements related to design, process approval, and product approval

Module 3

FUNDAMENTALS OF PRODUCT QUALITY PLANNING

Content:

  • Product design
  • Process design
  • Part approval in accordance with the PPAP procedure

Exercises:

Discussion of procedures and principles for product and process approval

Principles of validation for processes requiring validation

Module 1

APQP-RELATED DOCUMENTATION

Content:

  • Documenting APQP-related activities
  • Records related to quality planning
  • Control Plans

Exercises:

Documenting the APQP process and managing documentation

Module 2

METHODS SUPPORTING APQP

Content:

  • SPC and MSA
  • DFMEA and PFMEA
  • Design using QFD and DOE

Exercises:

Analysis of requirements related to design and approval of processes and products

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

The training takes the form of a workshop supported by a multimedia presentation and supplemented by exercises. The theoretical part is interspersed with many examples. The training can be conducted on real company examples – e.g. designing a control plan for a selected process. The pace of the training and the difficulty of the issues discussed are adapted to the level of advancement of the participants.

After the training, each participant will receive a certificate confirming completion of the training.

Quality engineers, technologists, designers, process engineers, engineers – project co-ordinators, project managers and managers of the aforementioned departments.

What does the APQP methodology involve?

APQP (Advanced Product Quality Planning) is a project management methodology primarily based on the PDCA cycle (Deming Cycle), while also aligning with project management principles referenced in IATF 16949. The APQP guidelines were originally developed by the so-called “Big Three” automotive companies: General Motors, Chrysler, and Ford.

APQP consists of five phases: planning, product design and development, process design and development, product and process validation, and serial production, along with information flow between these phases.

Today, APQP is used not only in the automotive industry but also by manufacturing companies in other sectors to ensure high product quality during implementation. Validation of both product and process according to APQP guidelines minimizes the risk of errors and helps avoid additional costs.

Participation in an APQP course helps better understand the structure of the methodology and apply it correctly in practical project environments.
